Unless you’re a patron on Patreon (meaning you got this announcement several days early, yay you! Sign up at $1 or more for this kind of pre-notice in the future!), this is your FIRST NOTICE about the deets on my upcoming project!
You already know I’m working on a book. But oooooooh, what is it about? I’ve been dropping some hints, do you have a guess?
This is a weird time, right? I mean with the Circus Peanut in office, and the whole white-people-put-him-there thing, and with xenophobia, racial tensions and extreme right-wing pushback at a high…things are just weird.
It feels extra important for us all to be on the same page right now, especially on the left.
One way we’re pretty woefully not-on-the-same-page-at-all is race. And the reason for that is that white people don’t ever really have to deal with race issues, so they kinda…don’t. But a lot of them want to, and don’t know where to start.
Thaaaaaat’s where I come in.
Full disclosure: I’m only half white. But I grew up in a white family, in a white town, and I’m pretty darn white-passing. So I feel like I have a good in-between perspective to be able to explain the basics of race issues to white people…in a gentle, clear way.
So the book I’m working on–working title “Racism 101 for White People: A Guide to Getting Woke”–is meant to do just that. Explain the basics specifically for white people, starting at the very beginning.
It’s meant to bring people in. It’s straightforward and honest, but without judgment. It’s meant to open hearts and minds. And it’s pretty funny, if I do say so myself.
Fun, right? I think so. There’s no reason this can’t be fun, even if it’s a super duper serious topic. It should be a positive experience, overall, to open your heart and to expand your thinking.
Please, feel free to give me feedback. If you’re excited about it, tell your friends, and share my Patreon page with them. I’ll keep providing updates and sneak peeks, and my patrons get extra info and exclusive early previews!
Thanks so much for your support, and I hope to make it all worth it!
